  • Coffee, Canines, & Compassion Fatigue

If you love a dog with aggression, reactivity, anxiety, or big feelings in a small (or large) body — you know that it is fulfilling but also challenging. The constant management, the training plans, the second-guessing, the hypervigilance, the grief for the dog you thought you’d have. And the fierce love that keeps you showing up anyway.

Coffee, Canines, & Compassion Fatigue is a small-group discussion created specifically for dog moms who are in the trenches with complex dogs. This is an open-minded, non-judgmental, supportive space to exhale. A place to say the quiet parts out loud. A place to be understood without having to over-explain.

Together, we’ll talk about compassion fatigue, burnout, and how to support yourself so you can continue supporting your dog in a sustainable way. You’ll leave with encouragement, practical tools, and resources to help you regulate your own nervous system alongside your dog’s.

Your ticket includes coffee, pastries, guided discussion, and gentle yoga led by Michelle Vande Hey — designed to help you reset, reconnect, and refill your cup.

    Date: Saturday, May 16, 2026

    Time: 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM

Location: Maude and the Bulldogs LLC headquarters, southside Madison

Resources & Recommendations

Food, Treats, & Bones (oh my!)

  • We love the variety of options at Naked Beasts! Our favorites are shrimp, rabbit feet, and bison quarter patties. Use our referral link for $20 off your first order!

  • If you are looking for antlers, quail, or farm to table snacks, Chewy Pawz has you covered! The code MAUDE10 saves you 10%, and you can use our referral link for $10 off your first order.

  • Farmhounds is a great option for those looking for both traditional and exotic chews and treats. We love the scratch n dent section and party wing packs! Use our referral link for $20 off your first order.

  • We are currently feeding a kibble based diet with raw enhancements. We feed a healthy rotation of raw and dehydrated proteins, vegetables, dog friendly additions such as organ meat, lean proteins, ground flaxseed, coconut oil, bee pollen, spirulina, probiotic rich yogurt products, fruits, a pro/prebiotic with digestive enzyme powder, fish oil, and a joint supplement.

Pet Insurance & Vets & More

  • We highly recommend pet insurance - purchase your plan earlier rather than later to avoid treatment exclusions due to pre-existing conditions. We use Healthy Paws and Lemonade. (Please use our referral links!)

For more information, please refer to this informal FAQ document (please note that I am not an expert, simply a high utilizer).

  • We love our vets at Northside Animal Hospital for routine care. All five bulldog knee surgeries and a feline emergency general surgery were completed at Madison Veterinary Specialists; we are so grateful to the MVS team for taking such phenomenal care of our pets! For physical therapy and integrative medicine, we highly recommend Dr. Lara at HEAL Integrative Veterinary Rehabilitation.

  • Most of our photos are from Dulcy Dog Photography. Melanie is an incredible artist and phenomenal human. We're so grateful to take photos with her annually!

Training Equipment

  • Herm Sprenger is the ONLY brand of prong collar that we trust. Most dogs need a 2.25mm collar. Pair with a safety tie (connected from O ring on prong to flat buckle or ecollar). We have a limited quantity available for purchase!

  • We love the mini or micro educator ecollars from Ecollar Technologies (and sometimes, The Boss, for our larger canine companions!). The versatility, ergonomics, and precision (100 levels in increments of one) are hard to beat. We are happy to order for you (and save you $20!) - please email Jen to submit your request.

  • We prefer elevated place cots for clarity in boundaries, confidence building, and comfort. Our favorites are Coolaroo and Amazon brand. They come in a variety of sizes and colors!

  • We use wire crates and prefer the one door version. Our favorite brand is Frisco via Chewy. Most dogs need a 30, 36, or 42 inch crate.

We use Primo Pads for comfort, durability, and ease of cleaning. Be sure to measure your crate and follow all directions on their website for the best fit.

  • We rely on a variety of products for safe, effective, and stress free grooming. See below for links!

    Nail Dremel

    Baskerville Muzzle

    Shampoo

  • Bark collars can be game changers for the whiny or barking dog. Please ensure that this tool, like any other, is conditioned appropriately.

    Journey of Becoming Materials

I've been new a lot over the past decade - in balanced dog ownership, in business, in training, in the corporate world. It can be overwhelming, fun, frustrating, exhilarating, scary, and exciting, all at the same time!

In our Journey of Becoming mini ebook and Instagram Live Series, you'll find discussions, tools, and resources that I have found helpful. Cultivating vulnerability, rumbling with shame and feelings of inadequacy, finding my Something Larger, preventing burnout, and incorporating self care, have helped me to use transitions to grow, expand, and mature - and cope with the challenges of being new. I hope they do the same for you.
